From General Practitioner to a GP Practice in Somerset West.

Our Story

Dr. Theresa Jordaan holds an MBChB degree from the University of the Free State (UOVS) and has been actively practising medicine since 1991. She has spent the first decade of her career serving rural communities in South Africa’s Free State and Eastern Cape. As a passionate advocate for health equity, Dr. Jordaan played a pivotal role in transforming health services during apartheid, establishing inclusive healthcare practices that addressed racial discrimination. In 1991, Dr. Jordaan opened general family practices in Hobhouse and Wepener, which became among the first to provide equitable health services to underserved communities. Her commitment to enhancing care led to the establishment of a hospice in Wepener, where she trained volunteers to provide palliative care, and she also initiated a safe house for vulnerable women and children in the Eastern Cape. International Experience In 2003, Dr. Jordaan expanded her horizons by working within the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK. By 2004, she had completed her postgraduate training in General Practice at the prestigious University of Oxford, subsequently entering the MRCGP Register in the UK. During her time with the Berkshire Primary Health Care Trust, Dr. Jordaan served as a principal in a GP practice and took on the critical role of GP lead for the safeguarding of children, overseeing mandatory postgraduate training for healthcare providers and writing reports for Serious Case Reviews regarding child welfare. Return to South Africa Returning to South Africa in 2012, Dr. Jordaan worked as a GP in Strand. In 2014, she established her practice in Somerset West, located conveniently in the Helderberg Shopping Centre alongside Checkers Hyper. With 3 GPs, a practice nurse, and 3 admin personnel, working as a team is empowering and brings a basket of skills to a dynamic practice. This synergy allows us to deliver dynamic and responsive healthcare to our community.
